How to avoid mid season stress.

It is raining a lot, days are becoming shorter, the weather is changing. The season is turning to autumn here in Australia, and in the other parts of the world, it’s becoming spring. Even though spring is a season that many are looking forward to, seasonal changes can affect our lives and mood.

If you feel your mood is changing too, and you feel like you could use a little boost, have a look at the following tips.

how to overcome mid-season stress

— Clean out your wardrobe—

Get rid of those clothes that you don’t like anymore or have never really worn in the first place, so you can focus on the outfits you really like and need, and to make some space for the one or other new item.

I myself keep a lot of stuff and hang on to it for ages, until it sometimes gets too cluttered. But even for me, a move or home renovation is a good occasion for sorting through things and getting rid of some of them. That of course also help in the cleaning and decluttering process of your space, it simply feels so much better when the house is clean and neat.

— Help someone who needs it —

Do some volunteer work, help a charity or maybe simply a friend or family member who needs your help. For example, if your friends have a small child, offer them to babysit, so they can have some free time. The laughter of this child might actually make you smile as well, and your friends will surely appreciate your help. Or, maybe if someone is feeling unwell and needs a helping hand – consider offering yours. Helping others can be a very rewarding feeling, as long as you don’t feel like you are being constantly taken advantage of.

— Animals and pets therapy —

Consider visiting a pet rescue and offering some help or visit your friends who have a pet. Maybe you can take your friend’s dog for a walk or just play with their cat (unless you are allergic, of course). It is a fact that such contacts with pets can contribute to our happiness.

— Exercise —

This of course depends on your individual fitness level and overall health: Exercise regularly (running, jogging, or even a brisk walk). That does not only keep you in physical shape and gives your self-esteem a boost, but it also helps the body to get rid of stress hormones. If you are already a seasoned sports person, maybe you would like to take a new class, try out new activities at the gym. That will train different groups of muscles, and you get the opportunity to meet new people.

Here is an informative article for you to read why exercise makes you happy and how to exercise regularly.

— Treat yourself to something new —

It can even be something small and relatively inexpensive like a new nail polish or a small accessory piece. Be it that or even a whole new outfit – it can boost your mood. Just be careful to not overspend, because you might end up stressing and worrying about THAT instead.

— Make a photo shoot—

Who doesn’t love a good photo of themselves? Having it taken together with a friend or family member can be even more fun. A good photographer will make you see yourself from a different and positive angle. That can boost your mood as well as self-confidence.

Make sure you book the photographer and location in advance, and maybe even somebody to do your make-up. There are many ways to find a great deal for a photo shoot. For example, look for photographers who are building their portfolios. Offer them your idea of a shoot and location – you might even find one to do it at a reduced price or even for free. Check Model Mayhem or similar groups where photographers meet potential models. Explore local Facebook photography pages, and the same goes for make-up artists and stylists.

(As always: Keep safe, know in advance whom you will be dealing with and don’t meet strangers alone. Bring a friend along, it makes it more fun, anyway. )

—  Wear something beautiful, even if you are at home —

Let’s admit it: Every now and then, especially when the weather is not nice, we just want to stay home in our cozy old and stretched sweater or pjs, with our hair uncombed, nails not polished and legs unwaxed/unshaved. Don’t you know that feeling? Well, I tell you what: How about wearing something beautiful at home, even if it is only for yourself? For example, get rid of the pants with the stretched knees  and get yourself a new comfy but nice home outfit

— Pamper yourself—

Treat your body well, make sure you are taking care of yourself. Maybe take a bath with bathing oils and maybe a nice body scrub, treat your hear with a hair mask, and make sure your feet and hands are groomed. Maybe visit a beauty salon and/or your nail therapist. These rituals can be really good remedies for a bad mood, and against apathy and laziness. When you look good, it helps you feeling good.

— Eat well —

A balanced diet with plenty of fruits and vegetable (and even things like pasta or sometimes a bit of dark chocolate) supports you being healthy and happy. Yes, you read that right, I said “pasta”. Pasta makes you feel good and can even help you losing weight (with the right consumption). I am currently planning a post on a pasta diet – stay tuned!

PASTA TYPES

The idea is – when you eat the right amount of properly cooked premium Italian pasta, it can help your weight low. First of all, it fills your stomach, and you don’t feel too deprived and decrease your craving for all those snacks during the day. Secondly, pasta contains folic acid/vitamin B, which helps your serotonin level (and serotonin is affecting our happiness. as we know).

You might want to consult your physician about adding (the right kind and the right amount) of vitamin B to your diet, in case there is a deficiency. This vitamin reduces stress and gives you energy.

— Keep in touch with your friends& family —

Social media can be great to keep some level of contact with people we don’t get to see often. But sometimes time passes, and we realize that we hardly actually talk to our friends besides those Instagram and Facebook likes. Maintain your friendships, find out what is new in in your friends’ lives and remind them they are important to you. So do not let the gap grow bigger and talk to your friends. Communicate. Ask about their passions and feelings. Networking is the key. I have a couple of friends who always call me just to say ‘Hi’ – and you know what, it is always nice just to hear their ‘Hello’ and their voice. It makes everyone feel good.

—Set some new achievable goals and determine the way to achieve them—

The key word here is achievable. If you set a goal like ‘losing 15 kilos in one week’ – that is bound to disappoint you at the end of the week, because this goal is far from reality, and even the attempt can be unsafe. However, losing (or if necessary gaining) 2 kilos during one month is not only real and achievable, but healthy, too.

A goal like learning a new language or finding a new job requires a strategy. For example, you might try to learn soandsomany new words every day or working on a particular skill that’s required for your dream job. Completing an online education course might be a good idea, and you will achieve not only new knowledge but also and a certificate to add to your CV.

Such achievable successes help you being more satisfied and more motivated for the tackling of new goals.
